Early or late,
everyone wants to participate
in a Dr. Suess birthday party!
THE LATE Theodor Seuss Geisel, renowned children's author, was born March 2, but party animals can arrange their schedules to hit several of these Read Across America events honoring his birth:
• Penn Manor High School's library will be the site of an early celebration: a Read-a-thon for elementary students, who are asked to bring an adult and a favorite book for Drop Everything And Read, or DEAR, time. This event is 2-4 p.m. Sunday. Guest of honor is The Cat in the Hat, who will exit by fire truck.
Children are asked to bring a new book to donate to a needy child and to wear pajamas and participate in a Pajama Parade at 3:30 p.m. Dr. Seuss-related door prizes will be awarded.
• Manheim Community Library is opting to celebrate with a "Green Eggs and Ham" Picnic at noon Saturday, March 6. Reserve a spot for children ages 4-10 by calling 665-6700. An exception to the age rule will be made for state Sen. Mike Brubaker, who will attend.
Some celebrations have been timed just right.
• Manheim Township Public Library will host The Cat and state Rep. John Bear at a 1 p.m. party Tuesday in the municipal building at 1840 Municipal Drive. Birthday cake, donated by Stauffers of Kissel Hill, will be served.
All ages may register by calling 560-6441.
• Adamstown Area Library will celebrate "The Cat in the Hat" right on time, at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 2.
A fundraising breakfast with games, crafts and door prizes and featuring The Cat also will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 27, at the Denver Fire Company. Tickets are $5 for children, $10 for adults.
Register for either or both of these by calling 484-4200.
