Eastern Market is a small farmers market with a big big heart and a vital mission to bring fresh foods to the east side neighborhoods--many of which have little to no access to healthy foods. Designated a Community Food Project by the USDA in 2007 in recognition of the critical role it plays in Lancaster, the Eastern Market is managed by recent F&M alums Douglas Smith and Marisa Tuffiash Cidam, who have set up a mobile market unit at Washington Elementary School, are creating a gleaning program, and have strengthened the Market's outreach to farmers, community gardeners, and a number of small neighborhood businesses.
If that sounds like a lot of work, you are right! Doug and Marisa are looking for some additional hands to help with the following:
Market set-up and tear-down
Website management
PR and communications
neighborhood outreach
planning and assistance at market events
and more...
Consider getting involved--as a regular customer and volunteer! Doug and Marisa are transforming this kickin' little market into a place of great hope for the community.
For more information contact Marisa at mcidam@tabornet.org or 283-0942, ext. 201 or Doug at dsmith@tabornet.org or 358-9368.
Eastern Market is open Saturdays, 9am to 2 pm and Wednesdays, 4-7pm.
